Belleville Police Recover Stolen Automobiles
Cars returned to owners, with some sustaining damage during thefts.
Belleville police were able to return several stolen vehicles to their owners this week.
In most of the reports, the autos were stolen for short amounts of time. In one instance, thieves seemed to have hastily abandoned the vehicle. At 8:05 a.m. on March 5, Belleville police responded to a report that a black 1997 Honda Civic had been abandoned with the motor running and parked halfway between the sidewalk and the street.
The car had been reported stolen in Newark on March 1 and thieves reportedly damaged its ignition and removed its radio.
On Monday, March 2, a 2001 Toyota Corolla valued at $7,000 was reported stolen from a driveway on DeWitt Ave. The car’s owner reported that they were able to find the car in Clifton on March 5.
On Sunday, March 3, a Bridge St. resident reported that their blue 1997 Jeep Wrangler had been stolen. Police recovered the Jeep in Newark the following day.
The same day, a 199 Toyota Camry stolen out of Perth Amboy was found on New Street in Belleville.
