Nutley Offering Blood Pressure Checks on Saturdays
The Nutley Health Department will team with Mountainside Hospital to offer screenings the last Saturday of the month at the Dept. of Public Affairs on Chestnut Street.
Need to get your blood pressure checked?
Through a joint effort between the Township of Nutley and Mountainside Hospital, blood pressure screenings will be offered the last Saturday of each month from 9 to 11 a.m.
These screenings will be done at the Department of Public Affairs, 149 Chestnut St., courtesy of Mountainside Hospital.
“We are happy to expand on our current blood pressure screening schedule and Mountainside Hospital is more than willing to help us out,” said Nutley Commissioner Steven Rogers. “After meeting with several senior citizens and listening to their concerns about the difficulties of getting out for the weekly screening offerings, it became quite clear that a weekend screening was necessary.”
Rogers said he wants to help Nutley residents stay healthy in a cost-efficient way, “I will continue to look for other ways to offer free or low-cost health services to all of our residents.”
The Department of Public Affairs also offers blood pressure screenings on Monday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and again on Tuesday afternoons from 1:30 to 3 p.m.
Uncontrolled high blood pressure increases the risk of serious health problems, including heart attack and stroke, health officials said.
Anyone in need of a screening and are unable to attend during the listed times can contact the Department of Public Affairs for a more convenient time, and reminded to call 911 if there is a medical emergency. The department's number is 973-284-4973.
