Bronze Lions Coming to Belleville Library Next Week

Figures arriving with Washington Avenue parade

A ceremony marking the arrival of two bronze lion statues to be installed at the Belleville Public Library has been rescheduled for Thursday, Nov 29 at 3:30 pm at the library’s main branch on Washington Avenue.

The lions are being installed to commemorate the library’s 100th anniversary and are modeled after the statues gracing the front of the New York Public Library. Those statues are dubbed “Patience” and “Fortitude”.

The bronze statues in Belleville will be welcomed with a parade up Washington Avenue led by marchers from the Belleville High School band.

The ceremony was originally scheduled to be held several weeks ago but was delayed due to Hurricane Sandy.

Patience and Fortitude are necessary when attempting to visit the Belleville Library since there is no parking lot in which to park to actually go to the library... :-/

Not to make light of a very real problem, Lynn, but that made me chuckle.

Because of our "patience and fortitude" we were able to negotiate an agreement with the neighboring Coptic Church which will be building a new parking lot and entrance for the library. It is difficult to correct more than 50 years of poor planning in a short time but we are trying. Stop by and see the improvements!
