Frelinghuysen Brings “Hurricane Hunter” to Nutley

Congressman looking to inform students in advance of Hurricane season.

We're about one month before the start of the 2013 Atlantic Hurricane Season.

To let students know what's in store, Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen is bringing a veteran National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) “Hurricane Hunter” to visit four schools in his Congressional District on Tuesday, April 30.

CDR Carl Newman, a NOAA pilot, will meet with students at Nutley's Lincoln Elementary School from 12:30pm to 1:15pm.

“Commander Newman has had the unique opportunity to fly directly into some of the worst hurricanes our country has ever seen,” Frelinghuysen said in a press release.  “I am sure that his fascinating presentation will help to educate us on the science behind hurricanes. His talk will demonstrate to the students the value of math and science education and will hopefully inspire many of them to pursue their life’s work in these fields.”

CDR Newman, an officer with the NOAA Commissioned Officer Corps, one of the seven uniformed services of the Unites States, has been flying with NOAA for over 13 years.
