Hurricane Sandy Approaches; PSEG Offering Outage Updates Via Twitter
Utility has extra crews, downed line phone numbers ahead of historic storm
PSEG has announced steps it is taking ahead of Hurricane Sandy, which is expected to bring winds and heavy rains to the area by late Sunday. The full brunt of the hybrid storm, which may involve the collision of Sandy with weather systems from the west and north, is expected to hit Monday or Tuesday.
To report downed wires, call 1-800-436-PSEG. Please note that this is an automated system; callers are strongly encouraged to use it. The system also allows callers to speak to a live representative to provide specific information.
Customers with a handheld device, or who are at an alternate location with power, can also report power outages and view the status of their outage by logging in to My Account at pseg.com. General outage activity throughout our service territory is available online at www.pseg.com/outagecenter and updates are posted on pseg.com during severe weather.
In addition, if outages are widespread, the utility will activate its Twitter page to keep the public informed about our restoration progress. Sign up as a follower at http://twitter.com/psegoutageinfo to monitor restoration progress.
The utility is adding extra crews, preparing flood prone areas, coordinating with county emergency-management offices and taking other steps, but also cautions a storm as severe as this event is predicted to be may lead to outages.
