Man Seen Attempting Car Break-ins In Nutley, Bloomfield
Burglary attempts, car theft also reported in Nutley
A man was seen attempting to break into vehicles in Nutley and Bloomfield Nov. 7, Nutley police reported.
A witness out dog-walking on Mapes Avenue around 8:40 pm saw a black male in a hooded sweatshirt emerge from a black SUV that had stopped near a driveway. The man walked towards a Lexus, attempted to open the door and left when he discovered the vehicle was locked. The man was then seen approaching a second Lexus parked on the block and again tried to enter the car. He returned to the SUV, which was last seen heading north on Mapes towards High Street, the witness said.
Nutley police were searching the area when Bloomfield reported a similar incident on Bolten Road near Sylvan Road, an area adjoining Darling Avenue in Nutley. The suspect’s SUV was last seen in Bloomfield heading towards Rt.3.
A description was broadcast to police in Clifton and other communities in the area.
Around 2:30 pm Nov. 5, a Bloomfield Avenue resident told police that the basement and kitchen doors of the home had been forced open and the contents of dresser drawers in a bedroom had been spilled on the floor. The victim did not immediately know whether anything had been taken. The department’s detective bureau is investigating the incident.
Later in the week, on Nov. 8, police responded to a Grand Avenue residence on a report of an attempted break-in. A locked door at the residence was loose and wood chips had been dislodged. Nothing was reported missing.
That same day, around 6:55 pm, a 2010 Nissan Maxima was reported stolen from the area of Villa Place. The theft is being investigated.
