The Nutley Board of Commissioners will open bids on Sept. 25 from interested companies that want to collect leaves and haul away recycling from the town’s drop off site.
The bids will be read at 3 p.m. on Sept. 25. Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli said the state requires competitive bidding for leaf collection.
Announcing the bid process for leaf pick-up was one of the first things the council did after returning from summer break in early September.
The town switched from leaves being collected at the curb to leaves being bagged because of state regulations that are meant to keep sewers from clogging with leaves, Scarpelli said.
In other action, the township and the board of education are sharing services with physicians, Commissioner Steven Rogers said at the meeting.
"We are looking to reduce from three physicians to two in a joint effort that can save us as much as $20,000," Rogers said. "
