Nutley Invites Shoppers With Free, Two-Hour Parking
Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli urges residents to shop Nutley first and take advantage of free shoppers' parking now through Christmas Day in all of the township's business areas.
There will once again be free, two-hour metered parking throughout the township from now through Dec. 25, according to Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli, Director of the Department of Public Works .
The program was put in place to encourage residents to shop locally, Scarpelli said.
“We want to promote our business districts and support our local merchants anyway we can,” said Scarpelli. “We have wonderful shops and restaurants in our downtown, Olde Towne Centre, and throughout our other business districts."
The suspension of metered parking during the holiday season is a Nutley tradition.
“The convenience of our on-street parking and municipal lots coupled with the opportunity to leisurely walk while both shopping and dining offers a pleasant alternative to the crowded malls,” Scarpelli said.
The free, two-hour limit will allow people ample time to shop, but also allow the turnover of vehicles for new shoppers and prevent others from parking all day, he said.
“I am urging our residents to shop Nutley first,” Scarpelli said. “Supporting our local economy, especially in these trying times helps everyone. All year long our Nutley business community contributes to our PTO’s, non–profits, and other fundraising events. We should consider our friendly neighborhood stores and restaurants while we are making our holiday gift lists.”
