A Visit with Santa, train rides and chestnuts all on tap
Nutley will hold its annual Holiday Tree and Menorah Lighting this Sunday, Dec. 2 from 5 to 7 pm at the John H. Walker Middle School, 325 Franklin Ave., and the Nutley Park Oval across the street.
There will be several holiday themed attractions and offerings, including hot cider, performances by Nutley students, pictures with Santa and his reindeer (for purchase) and a mini-train ride.
Parts of Franklin Avenue and Chestnut Street will be closed during the event.

If we are calling it a Menorah, rather than the holiday candleabra, why aren't we giving the tree its correct name. It is a Christmas tree. Menorah is a religous term, not a generic one. If we decline to give one religion the respect that it deserves, then we must extend that lack of respect to all. Personally, I would like to see more celebrations called by their correct names. Perhaps we can also have a place for Divali, the Hindu celebration of lights at the time that they celebrate. This is a time for joy, not for pettiness and intolerance.
