On Saturday, Feb. 16, workers braved the cold to drag a capsized boat out of the Passaic River.
The boat, a 1968 31 foot former U.S. Coast Guard vessel, was abandoned under the Rutgers Street Bridge in Belleville just prior to Hurricane Irene. The removal was undertaken by the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission as part of their efforts to clear waterways in the wake of Sandy.
The PVSC said the boat will be dismantled by their staff and disposed of as scrap materials.

The boat was not "was abandoned under the Rutgers Street Bridge in Belleville just prior to Hurricane Irene." The boat got trapped upstream of the Bridge before the hurricane because there was no one to open the bridge to allow it to return to
its port. The owner moored the boat in hopes that it would survive the oncoming flood, but the boat broke loose of its moorings and was push under the bridge
