Police Blotter: Several CDS Arrests, Another Shoplifting at Pathmark

The following information was provided by the Belleville Police Department. It does not indicate a conviction.

 

Feb. 2

Possession of a Hypodermic Needle

At 5:09 p.m., a resident on Liberty Ave. reported his friend unconscious on the floor and bleeding from his forehead. EMT workers responded and, upon transporting onto a stretcher, uncovered an orange-capped syringe. After treatment at Clara Maass Medical Center, Newark's Anibal Rodriguez, 37, was arrested.

Shoplifting/Warrants

After arresting Belleville's Aracelis Yamuca, 42, for attempting to take $56.96 worth of goods from the Pathmark located at 115 Belmont Ave., police learned there were outstanding contempt-of-court warrants for $750 from Newark and $250 from Belleville.

Story security told police Yamuca left the store without paying after possibly using the self-checkout aisle. The suspect was found walking around the corner and brought back to the Pathmark, where she was positively identified. When asked to produce a receipt for her purchases, she handed over one for $6.07.

Yamuca was held in lieu of bail and transported to the county jail.

Feb. 1

Motor Vehicle Theft

A 15-year-old boy was arrested at Belleville High School after admitting to finding the keys to a silver four-door 2001 Mercury Grand Marquis, pushing the car until the remote beeped, then taking subsequently taking the vehicle for a ride.

A resident on the 300 block of Little Street said he parked his car at 4 a.m. and noticed it missing upon returning at 9:07 a.m. The car was recovered and returned to the owner.

Police are still investigating other events that might be connected.

Possession of Marijuana/Warrants

Police received a report about a male possibly possessing a handgun standing outside an apartment complex located at 16 Bellevue Court. None of them held a weapon, although one of the men said he left his identification around the corner in his car.

Upon arriving at the vehicle, officers noticed a large, open black bag containing two large bags of marijuana later confirmed by the Belleville Police Department's K-9 Unit.

Jose Martinez, 26, of North Arlington, was arrested for possession of marijuana over 50 grams and possession of marijuana over 50 grams with intent to distribute. He was held on $50,000 bail or 10 percent before being remanded to the county jail Feb. 2. In addition, his 2011 Nissan Rogue was impounded.

One of the other men, Nutley's Joseph Geraldo, 22, was found to have two contempt-of-court warrants from Wayne and Nutley totaling $514 that he paid before being released.

Jan. 31

CDS

Two plain-clothes officers went to the 500 block of Union Ave. to serve a warrant at 9:47 p.m., but ended up arresting three men for possession of cocaine, possession of cocaine with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of School No. 5, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The officers arrested Angel Santiago, 30, and Eduardo Ortega, 25, both of Belleville, as well as Javier Illera, 26, of Newark. Illera had a $1,000 outstanding warrant from Belleville while Santiago, who lived there, had a $500 warrant from the township.

After ringing the bell, the officers expressed their intent to serve a warrant and were told by one of the men “he's upstairs.” Upon going to the second floor, the officers smelled burned marijuana and saw a clear bag with marijuana on the coffee table. They also observed a burned marijuana cigarette, as well as paraphernalia used to distribute, package and weigh cocaine and marijuana including baggies, a pencil and pad with calculations, and a scale.

A search warrant obtained by the officers revealed more marijuana.

Vandalism to a Motor Vehicle

A Belleville High School student reported parking his car in the school parking lot at 7:45 a.m. and, upon returning at 2:45 p.m., said noticed a blue line drawn from bumper-to-bumper on his white 2003 Ford Focus.

Jan. 30

CDS

An undercover unit was dispatched to the area of Overhill Avenue and Ceila Terrace after hearing about a suspicious vehicle circling the area, leading to the arrests of two Nutley men for containing 47 Xanax pills without prescription.

Both Marc Senatore, 18, and Robert Thiele, 20, were arrested after a motor-vehicle stop on Senatore's beige Mercury Grand Marquis. The officers noticed the driver attempting to hide a cigarette pack later discovered to contain pills. When removed from the vehicle, additional Xanax and $1,197 in cash were seized as authorities moved toward forfeiture.

Both men were charged with possession of CDS, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and possession with intent to distributed within 1,000 feet of a school zone. Both were held in lieu of bail.

Fraud

A 26-year-old woman living on Union Avenue reported her Capital One credit card incurred several charges that appeared fraudulent. She thought she misplaced it at first, but told police she thinks a friend took it from her pocketbook. The charges on Dec. 26 included ones from Game Stop, JC Penney and Walmart totaling $500.

Police are still investigating.

Jan. 28

CDS

Upon seeing a silver BMW driving slowly in the center lane of Route 21 South at mile marker 7.2, narcotics detectives pulled over and subsequently arrested a North Bergen woman. The detectives noticed Cynthia Barroso, 26, attempting to hide a small object wrapped in a rubber band onto her passenger-side floor. Eventually, flashlights discovered six wax folds of heroin with “Poison” stamped in green ink.

CDS/Warrant

Vernon Koslow, 29, of Sussex was arrested after being found to have a no-bail warrant from Kinnelon and an $850 warrant from Newark. In addition, after being taken to headquarters, the suspect was discovered to possess two wax folds of heroin with “Check Mate” stamped on them in green ink.

Belleville's anti-crime car discovered Koslow acting suspiciously and peeking into vehicles on the 40 block of Belmont Avenue at 1:01 a.m. When asked for identification, the suspect could not provide any but did offer his information.

Koslow is being held on both warrants.
