Police: Reports of High School Assault Were Unfounded
Run of the mill incident attracted media due to mistaken report.
Belleville residents have reported seeing a number of news vans in town today following an erroneous report of a high school student assaulting a teacher.
Media were evidently attracted to an initial emergency communications report that a high school student attacked a teacher at Belleville High School before smashing a window and fleeing from the school.
Upon investigation, that report has been proven to be mistaken.
There was no assault at the high school. However, there was an incident involving a special needs student at a nearby private school.
According to Belleville Police, a student with emotional problems was acting out in class. While restraining the student, a teacher sustained minor injuries that did not require medical treatment.
Both police and the school’s directors characterized the incident as run of the mill for the school, which specializes in teaching students with learning disabilites and special needs.
