Two Men Charged After Bar Brawl
Providence Bar was also charged for violations following large fight.
Two men were arrested on multiple charges after a fight outside a Belleville bar that attracted a large and reportedly unruly crowd, authorities said.
A fight broke out between two men at the Providence Bar on Heckel Street on Feb. 15 shortly after 1 a.m, according to Belleville police. The scuffle reportedly spilled out into the street, with bar patrons rushing outside to watch.
According to police records, Belleville officers, responding to a report of a large, noisy disturbance, arrived as the two men were assaulting each other. When the officers tried to separate the two men, they reportedly turned on the police, pushing the officers and flailing their arms.
Police say that while the officers were able to detain one of the fighters, the other ran into the bar in an attempt to flee. The man reportedly continued to resist until he was brought into custody.
Bloomfield police were called to the scene to help contain the crowd watching the fight, described by police as an “overwhelming large group.”
The two men involved in the fight, Glenn Williams, 23, of Dunellen and Daniel Oduro, 22, of Bloomfield, were turned over to county law enforcement and held on bail. They were charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, resisting arrest and simple assault.
Later that day, the Providence Bar, at 91 Heckel Street, was served with eight summonses. Four pertained to the bar and the rest were related to business records and safety compliance issues.
