8 is a powerful play written by Academy Award-winning writer Dustin Lance Black on the unprecedented account of Perry v. Schwarzenegger, the Federal District court case to overturn Proposition 8, which eliminated gay and lesbian couples’ right to marry in California in 2008. The play is based on the actual words of the Federal District Court’s trial transcripts, first-had observations of the courtroom drama, and interviews with Perry plaintiffs and their families.
After premiering on Broadway in September 2011, the play is now being licensed to schools, theaters and community organizations nationwide. The play is presented in the form of a stage reading without props or costumes.
Montclair State will premiere 8 in New Jersey with a cast that include students, staff and Broadway and television actors.
Tickets can be reserved in advance at http://msu8theplay.eventsbot.com/ and the night of the performance on a first come, first served basis at the Memorial Auditorium box office.
