Community Corner

250 Nutley Residents Take the 10,000 Volunteer Hour Challenge

Liquid Church, a Christian church, which holds worship services at the John Walker Middle School on Sundays, announced that it will participate in a grassroots movement of New Jersey churches coming together to love & serve the state named, Jesus Loves Jersey.  Congregants were challenged to spend 10,000 hours in community service efforts for the month of October.

Churches involved have two things in common: a) They love Jesus. (Christ-centered); b) They love New Jersey! (compassion for NJ state). This is a chance for churches in New Jersey to unite under a common banner of compassionate service that celebrates the collective impact church communities are having together.

From October 11th - October 19th 250 volunteers will serve Essex County through the following projects:
    - NYC Relief Bus
    - NFSB 100th Anniversary : Serve dinner for gala evening for NFSB clients
    - Nutley Family Services : Paint and clean-up large meeting room
    - Nutley Red Cross : Renovate their Food Pantry by painting, organizing donations and building shelves
    - Nutley Public Works : Clean up parks and streets
    - Nutley Board of Education : High Five/Radcliffe
    - Nutley BOE High/Middle School : Landscape the front of schools, weed & mulch
    - Nutley Public Library : Weed, clean up garbage, prune shrubs, clean up under bushes

Over 50 different community service events and activities in 9 of 21 counties are being planned the week of October 12-19, 2013.  The campaign will accommodate over 3,000 volunteers with 10,000+ volunteer-hours of community service time.
