Starting the Toastmasters Year with an Inspirational Bang

Cliffside Park resident to receive Toastmasters Competent Communicator award

Diane Rhodes, retired Library Director of Maywood, will be honored by Park Avenue Toastmasters of Rutherford, NJ for her achievement in the field of communication. Rhodes joined Toastmasters in December of 2011. On July 1, 2013 – the first day of the new Toastmasters year – She gave her tenth speech from the Competent Communication Toastmasters manual, completing a part of her Toastmasters journey.

“I joined Toastmasters because I followed a friend from my Rotary Club,” says Rhodes. “She has since moved on; but I stay for personal growth and because the members are so nice.”

Rhodes is certainly one of those nice members, as exemplified in her tenth speech to the club. The final project of the basic communication manual called for use of the basic public speaking skills so as to inspire one's audience. Giving a speech about how to live life in a fulfilling manner certainly did just that! Referencing quotes from her favorite book, Rhodes reminded the audience to move past the little things, appreciate all wonderful happenings, and to live like today may be our last day on earth. Not only did she inspire the audience, but she also refreshed our outlook on our every day lives. All in all, it was a delightful and awesome speech presentation.

“People should join Toastmasters to learn or improve both public speaking and leadership skills; and because it is fun!”, says Rhodes.
