Essex County LGBT Support Group Hosting Fundraiser

State Assemblyman Tim Eustace, who is openly gay, will present a resolution to the group's founder.

A local organization providing assistance to at-risk lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender adolescents is holding its first awards dinner and fundraiser.

The Essex County LGBT Reaching Adolescents In Need Foundation will host the event as board members honor key supporters in the community that have helped the agency since it launched last July. It will be held at Chateau of Spain in Newark at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 and includes the program, dinner, live DJ and silent auction.

Honorees include Amir Hashemi of Cross Counter Inc.Councilwoman Andrea McPhatter of East Orange, Brian McGovern of the North Jersey Community Research Initiative, and Elaine Helms Essex County RAIN Foundation founder. The night includes a special recognition by Assemblyman Tim Eustace who is an openly gay member of the NJ Legislature and who will present a resolution to the founder.

"I commend Elaine for her efforts in establishing North Jersey's first housing program dedicated to support LGBT adolescents in need of housing and stabilization services,” said Eustace. “We must continue to support housing initiatives for our at-risk populations, especially those with nowhere else to turn.”
