This weekend has something for everyone.

WHY GO:  Come visit this creepy genetically modified food processing factory as an “employee.” You will meet your deranged co-workers and see what the boss is feeding them for lunch. Beware: Many of the new employees don't make it through the night shift!
COST:   $30 For Rapid Processing Ticket (VIP), $18 for Adults, $15 for Children 12 and under.   ** “Not-so-Scary” Kids’ Sunday Matinees from 2 pm-6 pm. Tickets are $8 a person and adults must be accompanied by a child age 12 and under.

WHY GO:   This collection day provides residents a place to properly and safely dispose of contaminants.  Materials being collected include pesticides and herbicides, paint thinners and solvents, oil-based paint, chemistry sets, barbecue propane tanks, pool chemicals, photo developing chemicals, household batteries, fluorescent light bulbs and ballasts, products that contain mercury, car batteries, home fire extinguishers, aerosol spray paint and automotive fluids.

WHY GO:   Visitors to OctoberFest can go on canoe trips on the Passaic River or nature walks in Essex County’s West Essex Park. There will be a petting zoo, gardening tips, a live beehive display, woodturning demonstrations, pumpkin carving demonstrations, nature arts and crafts, face painting, free refreshments, a pumpkin patch maze and display tables from a variety of eco-vendors.  Admission is free.

Celebrate World African Penguin Day by visiting the zoo's flock of African Penguins at the Penguin Coast Exhibit.   Home to a flock of endangered African Penguins, the zoo participates in the penguin species survival plan breeding program.  No! African is not a misprint. This is now the official name for the black footed penguin that lives on the rocky shores around southwest Africa. The climate is very much like New Jersey’s and so the zoo’s African penguins are very comfortable living here.   Come see for yourself how they swim, dive, and turn with lightning speed.
