BELLEVILLE

WHY GO: Belleville Seniors meet every Friday, with coffee, buns and bingo following.  New members are always welcome.

WHAT:

WHY GO:  TNT Fitness studio located at 86 Union Avenue in Nutley is offering Ballet / Creative Movement classes for young children between the ages of 2 - 8.  The session is an 8 week session with a recital in August to showcase what our students have learned from our experienced dance instructors.

WHY GO: The Thrift Shop at Christ Church sells donated items of new and gently used clothing, household items, and some furiniture. All items are sold at very reasonable prices, which makes them affordable to local area residents and The Care Closet participants.

WHY GO: Enjoy a hilarious Woody Allen film.  Neurotic New York comedian Alvy Singer falls in love with the ditsy Annie Hall.

WHY GO: “Sordid Lives”: A black comedy about white trash! This raucous comedy was nominated for over 30 awards during its long run in Los Angeles.   When Peggy, a good Christian woman, hits her head on the sink and bleeds to death after tripping over her lover's wooden legs in a motel room, chaos erupts in Winters, Texas.  This play contains adult language and themes, and is not suitable for children. 
COST: Tickets are $15, with a $2 discount for senior citizens and students with ID.

WHY GO: In an age of increasing budget cuts and difficult economy, it's important to spread the news to all pertaining to Neighbor to Neighbor Network (NTNN) which is doing our best in providing assistance to the less fortunate visit their website:  http://www.n2n.org/aboumainxxzxqma305.cfm .  The NTNN & Bloomfield Animal Shelter is holding a yard sale in the parking lot at 224 Broad Street on Saturday and Sunday, 6/16 and 6/17. If anyone has items to donate please drop them off on Saturday morning.  Donations of towels are also needed for the animals at the shelter. Kittens will be available on site for adoption.

WHY GO:  Join Girl Scout Troop 548 and the Edgemont and Bradford PTA for a free film screening of 'What's On Your Plate", the witty and provocative documentary about kids and food politics. Filmed over the course of one year, the film follows two eleven-year-old city kids as they explore their place in the food chain.

WHY GO: The Sanctuary Choir under the direction of Eric Olsen will present Mozart Requiem in D minor, Parts I through VII during the 10:00 AM service. Mozart’s last composition is the culmination of his beautiful artistry.  Performed at the memorial services for Haydn and Beethoven, the Requiem is complex, fusing elements of classic and baroque style.  Mozart was able to fully complete the first seven sections of this transcendent work before his untimely death.  This is a tribute to his incomparable musical spirit, which lives on in his immortal Requiem. 

NEWARK

WHY GO: This event will serve as an opportunity for teachers, families and children to engage in  meaningful activities that support learning at home and assist with preventing summer learning loss.   Community agencies will be present to provide families with information on resources and programs that support children and families citywide. During the evening, the Newark Museum will offer families tours of their exhibits. This event is free and light refreshments will be served. Parents can register with their Parent Liaison or Family Worker.

WHY GO:  Participants will start outside with a plant walk to experience the specific scented plants our various gardens feature. Then  Dena Corbin of Natural Ground 1 will lead a hands-on indoor workshop to explore their culinary and medicinal applications. Participants will go home with fresh herb cuttings, recipes, how-to-grow guides to start personal gardens, and a healthy helping of tea and scones.

WHY GO:  There will be a silent auction and unsilent party, with live jazz by the William Spaulding Quartet.  This festive event features hundreds of artworks for bid, novel entertainments, homemade local foodstuffs and strong signature cocktails as well as icy beer from Hunterdon Brewery. All proceeds make possible Gallery Aferro’s year-round exhibitions, award-winning artist residencies, publications and expanding education program. More than 80 artists have donated artworks and experiences, including personal portrait sessions, a custom 140-character “tweet” done as a letterpress print, artist-led tours from Iron Maiden Artist Tours and other offerings impossible to classify but sure to thrill.
