1. Township Council Meeting Tuesday Night
After their last get-together was highlighted by disagreements, will the Belleville Township Council be in a more civil mood after the last Council meeting saw the controversial $3.6-million bond ordinance ? We will find out Tuesday night at 7 p.m. at in the final meeting of 2011.
2. Big Week for School Holiday Concerts
For those not planning to attend Tuesday night's Council meeting, there is the Winter Concert (Band, Choral and Orchestra) taking place in the high school's auditorium at 7 p.m. And earlier Tuesday, 's Winter Concert will begin at 1:30 p.m.
On Wednesday, township music fans can choose between the 's Winter Band & Orchestra Concert or the St. Peter's School Christmas Concert, both of which start at 7 p.m. Thursday has the Winter Concert at 1:30 p.m., followed by 's Winter Concert at 1:30 p.m. on Friday.
3. BHS Wrestling Starts Wednesday
After going 22-10-1 in dual matches last winter, the Buccaneers begin anew Wednesday when they host Orange at 3 p.m. Belleville will then be tested Friday at West Windsor-Plainsboro North and Saturday at Edison. Senior Justin Colon, who won the Region 4 119-pound title last February before advancing to the state tournament in Atlantic City, is venerable head coach Joe Nisivoccia's top returnee.
4. Buccaneer Basketball Teams Hoping to Rebound
Last winter, the Belleville High School boys basketball team went 7-19 while the girls finished 4-16. However, as with all teams at the outset of a season, both Buccaneer squads are optimistic headed into their respective openers Friday afternoon against Arts High School.
The boys will host Arts at 4 p.m. and will rely upon senior forward Tommy Rosario and Julian Rodriguez. Rosario garnered second-team All-Colonial Division honors, while Rodriguez earned honorable mention.
Meanwhile, the girls will trek across the Newark border for a 4 p.m. tip-off at Arts. Junior guard/forward Chassity Sousa, a second-team All-Colonial Division performer in 2010-11, is the top returnee for first-year coach Liz Ramirez, who was a Buccaneer standout from 1990-94.
5. Saturday Matinee at Belleville Public Library
