Clara Maass Medical Center is holding the grand opening of The Cancer Center, which will be dedicated at a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony from 3 to 5 p.m. on Thursday.
“This comprehensive cancer center will allow patients to consult with doctors, receive treatments and experience a complement of other services all in one location,” said Mary Ellen Clyne, Ph.D., President and Chief Executive Officer of Clara Maass Medical Center. “Patient navigators will assist cancer patients with their appointments, treatments and other needs, in a single convenient location on the Clara Maass campus, which will make it easier for family members to be a part of the healing process.”
The Medical Director of The Cancer Center at Clara Maass Medical Center is Dr. James M. Orsini, MD.
The ceremony will include brief remarks, a formal ribbon-cutting, followed by light refreshments and tours of the center. The program begins at 3:30 p.m. Parking will be free for guests attending The Cancer Center Grand Opening.
The state-of-the-art center has two consultation rooms, four patient examination rooms, a conference room for support group meetings, a comfortable and spacious reception area, and a boutique with products especially for cancer patients – including prosthetics and wigs.
The interior is designed to give patients comfort and privacy while meeting with their health care providers and receiving medical care. A team of oncologists, surgeons, and cancer specialists – including plastic and reconstructive surgeons, hematologists, spine experts, pain management experts and fertility doctors - will work with each patient to develop an integrated and individualized cancer treatment plan.
Patient navigators will be available to help patients through the process of connecting with medical experts, scheduling appointments, streamlining medical records and receiving the care they need. Besides medical care, cancer patients at The Cancer Center at Clara Maass Medical Center can also take advantage of a whole host of additional services – including support groups, palliative care, psychological counseling, nutritional counseling, and referrals for alternative treatments.
In addition, patients can take advantage of acupuncture services, massage therapy and Reiki therapy, attend support group meetings and participate in smoking cessation programs.
