Hurricane Sandy: What Nutley, Belleville Residents Need to Know

Schools closed, shelters open in both towns

The townships of Belleville and Nutley have announced the following important information with regards to Hurricane Sandy:

Belleville

Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.

Residents of Main, Terry, Ralph and Stephens streets should move their cars to the parking lot of School 1. Residents of 725 Joralemon St. should move their cars to School 7.

The police Department is also urging the residents of Fairway Avenue and Mill Street to relocate vehicles to higher ground.

A shelter has been opened at Belleville High School, 100 Passaic Ave.

Trash and recycling collection are suspended through Wednesday and will resume Thursday. Alternate-side parking regulations are suspended through Wednesday.

Nutley

Schools are closed Monday and Tuesday.

Garbage collection is suspended through Wednesday. Residents are urged not to place trash on the street due to expected high winds. Leaf and recycling collection is suspended Monday and Tuesday.

The Board of Commissioners and the Office of Emergency Management have a few announcements and cancellations because of the anticipated effects from Hurricane Sandy.

Parks and rec, as well as senior activities are cancelled Monday and Tuesday.

The Department of Public Affairs  building will be opened beginning Sunday at 10 pm. Those needing refrigeration for medications can call the health department beginning Sunday at 10 pm. The number is 973-284-4951, ext. 2416.

An emergency shelter has been set up at 44 Park Ave.
