Christie Wins in Buono's Hometown of Nutley

Nutley voters added local insult to statewide injury for Barbara Buono Tuesday night.

According to unofficial results from the Nutley Clerk’s office, the Democratic candidate for governor and native of Nutley fell about 1,200 votes shy of what Governor Chris Christie garnered in her hometown.

The early Nutley tally showed 4,251 townships residents pulled the lever for the Republican Gubernatorial candidate while only 3,078 did the same for Nutley High School graduate Buono.

The comfortable margin for Christie comes in spite of Buono’s hometown advantage and the higher number of registered Democrats in Nutley compared to Republicans.

Christie, who stopped at the Nutley Diner on the day before the election, is hovering around a 20 percentage point lead over Buono statewide, according to the New York Times.
