Fr. John, What Happened?

A Priest or anyone in a position of authority and alleged respect who engages in abuse of their position needs to be held accountable for their actions, benevolent or not!

Fr. John, ?  What hurts the most is that these are supposed to be the trusted people, the rock of the community like 'Peter the Rock' From Matthew 16 "And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld will not prevail against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven...."

We trusted you with the spiritual health of communities in North Newark and Essex County and this is what resulted from that trust: a line a mile long of accusers alleging that you abused them?  I would love to know what went wrong with the whole thing, the Jesuits, the Rice Brothers, the archdioceses, etc...our inner cities are in deeper moral crisis like no time ever....our youth, especially minority youth, are shooting each other and being shot (and killed) as just a fact of life everyday, and the Catholic high schools and institutions are closing for lack of funding and lack of manpower.

Those two events are not unrelated...the guidance is gone, the moral strength is gone, one mom and six kids can't do it alone, we aren't designed for that much stress in a bubbling county of temptations.....those Catholic schools were suppose to fill in the void and all the actors have done is feather their own perverted nests with the hearts and souls of your young!

My memories of Essex Catholic (class of 1988) and so on are of baseball, hockey, physics class, writing for the school newspaper, a discovery of self and purpose; unfortunately many many people's memories will be of horrifying, unspeakable abuse at the hands of the successors Peter....the sons of the bakers, the masons, harvesters, the butchers, the bricklayers, THE BUILDERS, will never be the same, not in this life.....

Carolyne, Linda has my e-mail, you can obtain it from her. Drop me an e-mail sometime and we can chat. I know you are trying to make sense of what's happened here, but please look at the reality. We are all being forced to do so. A $600,000 settlement was paid by the archdiocese, that's our money, your family, my family, what we contribute is being thrown out the window. Generally settlements aren't paid unless the defending party feels they will lose in court. How many catholic high schools have closed since 2003. My beloved Essex Catholic is most likely gone forever! That's who is paying for this problem, the future generations who won't be able to send their kids to a 'Brothers school'. Penn State (a very catholic spot), Delbarton, many Jesuit spots, and on and on...how many more of these situations do we need to hear about before corrective institutional philosophical action is taken?

So I take it you weren't the unkempt fellow who blocked the sidewalk and refused to move until he'd finished his spiel? Made my then 9-year-old daughter listen too. Real class act. Cop told me to mind my own business, because you prevaricators have "rights". Our "rights" to a peaceful Sunday Mass? Yeah, we don't have that. Enjoy your money.

What you are saying is that people risked arrest to stand up for the reputation of Father John. Did anyone run up to you and say "He abused me too!" No? No.

Enzo, I would like to thank you very much for stating the facts of what you saw when you were around this monster who has ruined so many lives. I spoke to you some weeks ago on the phone and I thank you again for listening to me and stating facts that these Pedo Padre Lovers will not believe no matter what...

My brother is a Father John victim, not part of the lawsuit, not part of the settlement, just a victim. - sister of an Altar Boy at Immaculate Conception Church, Newark
