The following announcement comes courtesy the The Scarpelli Civic Association.
The Scarpelli Civic Association will hold its Second annual Walk for Autism on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Nutley Park Oval.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. with the walk scheduled for 11 a.m. A BBQ lunch is planned following the walk, along with activities for children.
The Scarpelli Civic Association (SCA) is a local, charitable organization founded by Peter Scarpelli, Sr. in 1975, continued by Mayor Peter Scarpelli, and recently re-organized under the leadership of Dr. Joseph Scarpelli. The Scarpelli Civic Association seeks to promote autism awareness and foster support within the Nutley community.
“Autism affects 1 in 49 children in New Jersey,” Commissioner Scarpelli said. “Our goal is to not only raise awareness, but also to donate funds and equipment to our school system to support our children.”
Since 2010, the Scarpelli Civic Association has provided in excess of $20,000 in educational equipment and supplies for use in the Autism and Special Education Program in the Nutley School District. The organization has also awarded scholarships to Nutley High School seniors in the Special Education Program continuing onto post-secondary education.
Registration for the Walk can be accessed on line at www.sca-nutley.org or by calling 973-235-0703.
“Although there are many good organizations raising money for autism, the Scarpelli Civic Association is unique in that all proceeds raised directly help support our local, Nutley programs,” concluded Scarpelli.
