Belleville Firefighters Hold Blood Drive Saturday

The Belleville Fire Department hosts a Blood Drive this weekend to help one of their own.

In late October, Firefighter Kevin Lissenden was involved in a motor vehicle accident where he sustained severe injuries and lost a significant amount of blood.

"We’re hoping for a speedy and full recovery," Battalion Chief Timothy Buckley said. "He’s got a long road ahead of him."

He is currently in treatment at an intensive care unite at a Jersey City. His fellow firefighters have rallied around him, with Battalion Chief Timothy Buckley organizing a blood drive after finding out what condition Lissenden was in.

On Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Belleville Fire department invites residents to donate blood at their station on 275 Franklin Ave in Lissenden’s honor. They are not looking for any specific blood type.

The Blood drive has been organized through the Blood Center Of New Jersey and donations will be directed to Lissenden and other patients in need of transfusions.

Organizers ask that participants you eat a meal and drink plenty of water one hour prior to donating.

Donoros must weigh 120 lbs or more and are asked to have their social security number and have a photo or signed ID. Donors who are 16 must have a parental consent form signed the day of the blood drive and parent and present ID.
