GSA Students Inducted to National Junior Honor Society

Good Shepherd Academy students were inducted as members of the National Junior Honor Society in a ceremony held at the school last Wednesday, May 14, 2014.   Members were selected by the chapter's faculty council for meeting high standards of scholarship, service, leadership, citizenship, and character.  Students inducted were Amanda Vera, Jamie-Ann Palmer, Nanditha Pradeep, Sahki Shah,  Jarielle Cabalfin, Brian Samper, Gabriella Pereira, Rena Thomas, and Larry Zebaze.  

"We are very proud to recognize these outstanding members of our student body.  National Junior Honor Society members are chosen for and then expected to continue their exemplary contributions to the school and community," said Mrs. Joan Metallo, Chapter Adviser. 

This is the first year for the Good Shepherd Academy National Junior Honor Society.  The chapter has been named "The Saint Lucy Filippini Chapter" after the foundress of the sisters who have taught in the academy since it opened in 1950.  Each year the chapter will sponsoring several service projects for the academy and community.

The National Junior Honor Society ranks as one of the oldest and most prestigiuos national organizations for middle school students.  There are chapters in more than 7,500 middle schools, and since 1929, millions of students have been selected for membership.  NJHS is a program of NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals, www.nassp.org.)
