Adopt Me!

Animals found around Millburn sit at Valley Veterinary Hospital until claimed or adopted.

Are you looking for a cute dog to bring home to your family or just need some company to curl up with on the couch after a long day of work?

Well, the Millburn Animal Control has been working with Veterinarian Norman J. Stack of Valley Veterinary Hospital, 2172 Millburn Ave., over the last eight years to make that happen.

Right now the hospital is taking care of two dogs looking for a home.

One is a brindle pitbull, Scrappy, who is about only eight-months-old, found on Millburn Avenue at Vauxhall Road.

"He greeted Captain Palardy then laid down at his feet," Joe Bielski of the Millburn Animal Control said. "He was great with everyone who came to meet him."

Stack has given the dog all the shots needed and will nueter the dog before he is given out for adoption but wants him to have a home first so he isn't in a cage with a cone on said Bielski.

Onyx is an eight-year-old black lab with arthritis. Bielski described him as a dog, "who wants to go outside, do his business then just curl up on the couch with someone."

"He's a sweet dog," one of the employees at the hospital said. "He's just a happier older dog."

Both are house broken, listen and aren't aggressive at all Bielski said.

Whenever Bielski picks up a dog, he bring them down to animal hospital and Stack takes care of the dog or cat. He gives them shots if they need them and in Onyx's situation Stack treats his arthritis.

It is required for Animal Control to wait a week before offering the animals up for adoption.

Scrappy's week is up and it's been over a month since Onyx was found in the South Mountain Reservation abandoned.

Bielski and Stack are asking Millburn and Short Hills residents to ask around if anyone wants to adopt these lovable dogs who both need a good home.

For more information contact Joe Bielski at 973-564-7085 or Valley Veterinary Hospital at 973-763-3445.

We are still trying to get these guys either adopted, fostered, or even have a rescue group come in and take one. If anyone can assist in this effort please call the number listed above 973 564 7085. Thank you.

It really saddens me to see an abundance of pure bred dogs in our town when there are so many sweet dogs in need of a warm and loving home! I just don't get it!! Please help Dr. Stack find them a home! I wish I could fit them in my life but already have 5 animals and do my own TNR (trap neuter release) of kitties that live near me to control the cat population in my neighborhood! No need to fly your designer dogs in or travel hundreds of miles to pick up those pretty goldens!

Well KatDog, you should be happy to know I just received a call from Joe Bielski at animal control and Onyx, the black lab, is being adopted today

Oynx was adopted. I would like to thank Craig for his article which helped get Oynx adopted. The lady was from south Jersey but was a former Short Hills resident who still continues to read the Millburn Patch. We still do have Scrappy who is still up for adoption. He is the 8-9 month old sweet pit bull still looking for a home.
