Belleville Police Blotter

Two women were charged with shoplifting, a man was charged with disorderly conduct, and four men were found to have outstanding warrants during the period of May 13 through May 18 in Belleville.

Shoplifting

May 13

A woman trying to conceal nine bottles of Tylenol pain reliever tablets and leave the local Kmart department store was caught and charged with shoplifting a 9:38 a.m.

Police arrested and charged Pilar Atencio, 42 of Newark with shoplifting after store security said she tried leaving the store without paying for the pain reliever. She was held on $200 bails and also had a $250 outstanding warrant from Newark.

A chase through the streets of the Silver Lake area of Belleville ensued when police said a woman tried to flee the local Pathmark supermarket in her car without paying for several items.

Police arrested and charged Ana Diaz, 23 of East Orange with shoplifting at 6:17 p.m. A supermarket security officer saw Diaz leave without paying and jump into a waiting gray Saturn sedan that sped off.

After a chase from the Belmont Avenue supermarket parking lot through Honiss and Lake streets, the car, the driver and Diaz hit a parked car, and Diaz was not found.

On May 14, police found out that the car belonged to Diaz’ mother when Diaz came to pick up the car. She was then charged with resisting arrest and given motor vehicle summonses. A court date is pending.

Man Charged with Disorderly Conduct

May 16

A man was found screaming and waving his arms near a Sovereign Bank at the corner of Washington Avenue and Little Street and was eventually charged with being a disorderly person at 1:33 a.m.

Police arrested and charged Anibal Nieves, 32, of Belleville with disorderly conduct after he denied damaging a post used to hold up chains to the parking lot entrance. He cursed and police said he appeared intoxicated. He was later released on his own recognizance.

Outstanding Warrants Charges

May 14

Roberto Moreno-Duque, 22, of Roselle was arrested and charged with having a $580 outstanding warrant from Elizabeth, a $500 outstanding warrant from Haledon and a $100 outstanding warrant from Edison.

The arrest came after police questioned four young men at 9:06 p.m. on Bridge Street.

Dean Wauchek, 35, of Kearny was arrested and charged with having a no-bail warrant from the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.  He was charged with the possession of a hypodermic needle in Belleville and then turned over to the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

Wauchek was questioned by police for looking into cars on Belmont Avenue, and was later charged with possession of a hypodermic needle.        

May 15

Police arrested a man for an out-of-state outstanding warrant after the man was in a car accident at 6:43 p.m. on Sanford Avenue.

Giovanni Rivera, 22, of Belleville was arrested and charged with having an outstanding no-bail warrant from Middletown, N.Y. Rivera was given a different court date in Middletown and released on his own recognizance.

May 18

Brian L. Mitchell, 23, of Bloomfield was arrested and charged with having a $340 outstanding warrant from Bloomfield and an outstanding no-bail warrant from the Essex County Sheriff’s Department.

He was questioned after police said he was seen acting suspiciously at 1:20 a.m. near Brighton Avenue and Acme Street. He was taken to Essex County Jail, police said.
