A series of reported burglaries and thefts to Belleville Middle School students and a possible break-in to School No. 7 topped this week’s crime reports.

Burglary and Theft

April 30

The Belleville Middle School Police Resource Officer took reports of several burglaries and thefts at the campus, at 279 Washington Ave. One student reported his backpack stolen, and later four gym lockers were cut into, and sneakers taken from two while sneakers and gym uniforms were taken from the other two.

Later in the day, a student reported a PlayStation hand-held video game taken from a desk drawer at 10:10 a.m. School officials said the game was likely taken during a burglary at the school April 27.

Attempted Burglary

April 30

A School No. 7 custodian told police that motion sensors had been set off and a window opened on the second floor above a kindergarten class between April 27 and when he reported the possible burglary on April 30. A footprint was found on the second floor roof and a teacher reported that someone may have entered by pushing in a plastic window in a bathroom. Police are investigating.

Attempted Burglary

April 29

Police said a man was walking suspiciously close to cars on Union Avenue and he was later arrested and charged with attempting to break into one of the cars by pulling on a door handle.

Police arrested and charged Brian A. Moore, 25 of Belleville with attempted burglary to a car at 9:40 p.m. He was released on his own recognizance.

Driving While Intoxicated

April 28

A report of a Lincoln sedan driven erratically on Joralemon Street led to the arrest of Joseph Immerse, 59,of Bloomfield for driving while intoxicated and refusing to take a Breathalyzer test. Police said Immerse’s eyes were watery and bloodshot, and his breath smelled like alcohol. He was arrested after failing field sobriety tests and released on his own recognizance. He was issued a traffic summons for reckless driving.

Hindering Apprehension, Outstanding Warrant Arrest

May 1

A man with outstanding warrants was charged with hindering his arrest when he gave police a false name. Police arrested and charged Mustopolis P. Alexander, 36, of Newark with hindering apprehension. He had a no bail Essex County Sherriff’s Department warrant, two $125 outstanding warrants from Newark, and he was transferred to Essex County Jail on $5,000 bail.

Outstanding Warrant Arrest

April 30

Police arrested David Bell, 22, of Bloomfield for an outstanding no bail warrant from the Essex County Sherriff’s Department, a $599 outstanding warrant from Seaside Heights and a $200 outstanding warrant from Newark. He was transferred to Essex County Jail.
