Belleville: Thousands in Jewelry Taken from Home

A man walking on Franklin Street around 9:30 am Nov. 23 was robbed of his cell phone, police said.

The assailant, described as a black man, approached the victim, pushed him to the ground and grabbed the Samsung phone. Police were unable to find him.

Police also investigated two cases of prescription fraud this past week. On Nov. 17, workers at a Washington Avenue pharmacy said a woman left a prescription that was later found to be fake, police said. The woman, who remains at large, did not attempt to pick up the prescription, police also said. It was not immediately known what drugs she was seeking.

Around 6 pm on Nov. 20, Shirley Lee, a 60-year-old Orange resident, was arrested after trying to fill a fraudulent prescription for oxycodone. She was charged with attempting to obtain a controlled dangerous substance by fraud and was being held on bail.

At least two homes were burglarized in the past week. Around 7:30 pm Nov. 19, a Watssesing Avenue man noticed an open window at his home and later discovered a wallet and $169 in cash missing. Police are investigating.

The following day, around 6:20 pm, a Davidson Street resident reported a diamond bracelet and two diamond rings with a total value of $8,500 was missing. There was damage to the front door of the home, police said adding that the matter remains under investigation.

On Nov. 21 at 10:48 pm, a Washington Avenue business reported receiving a counterfeit $100 bill. The matter is being investigated.
