Belleville: Traffic Stop Leads to Drug Arrest

Man charged with using fake prescription, woman charged with shoplifting last week

A 24-year-old township man was arrested Nov. 25 on drug charges following a traffic stop.

Police stopped the car Nickolas Donnamaria was driving near Franklin Avenue and Mill Street around 11:30 pm because a headlight was out, police said. He was arrested after police spotted six wax folds of heroin in plain view within the car and charged with possession of heroin and a motor-vehicle violation.

Elizabeth Rea of Newark was arrested for shoplifting shortly after noon Nov. 29 at Kmart, 371 Main Street. Rea, 40, was attempting to leave the store with $63 in merchandise concealed in her jacket when she was stopped by security, police said. She was later released.

Nelson Guerrero, 20, of Belleville was arrested following a disturbance reported 11:20 am Nov. 24. After police arrived at the DeWitt Avenue address, Guerrero was charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was later released. 

A 21-year-old township man was arrested at a local pharmacy Nov. 26 after police said he tried to use a phony prescription to get drugs.

Police responded to Rossmore Pharmacy, 338 Washington Ave., at 4:44 pm and charged Alfonso Echevarria with forgery and for trying to obtain Xanax and promethazine by fraud. He was also in possession of an oxycodone pill, police said.

He was later released on $5,000 bail.

A car that had been parked on Bridge Street was reported stolen at 11:30 pm Nov. 30.

The owner of the 2003 Dodge Caravan told police the vehicle was last seen parked on the street around 4 pm that day.

On Nov. 25, a Parkview Avenue resident told police that jewelry worth $1,250 was missing from a dresser. The investigation is continuing.
