Nutley police have charged a township man with carjacking
after he allegedly tried to drive off in a car parked near the Franklin Ave.
On Tuesday, Aug. 20, a Starbucks customer called the police to report that they saw someone sitting in their vehicle when they walked out of the coffee shop 7:19 a.m. Police say the man in the car ran away when the owner approached.

Police charged McAteer with criminal mischief for damaging a marked unit, resisting arrest by flight (for running from police), resisting arrest (disorderly persons offense), carjacking (1st degree crime), and terroristic threats (3rd degree crime).
Judge Cocchiola set his bail at $100,000 with no 10 percent option, on all charges. He was taken to the Essex County Correctional Facility after being advised of his Court dates.
