Police: Man with Machete Arrested in Belleville

Hit-and-run investigation leads to drug arrest

A 24-year-old Newark man was arrested by Belleville police on drug charges after he reportedly left the scene of a traffic accident, police said Friday.

Around 2:13 on Nov. 5, Belleville police were called to the scene of a hit-and-run that occurred at Newark Avenue. The victim provided police with a description of the vehicle involved.

Police subsequently stopped Marcus Watson near Stephen Crane Village. He was arrested and charged with drug possession after he was found with cocaine before being turned over to Newark police.

Also last week, Belleville police arrested a 22-year-old Newark man after he was seen carrying a machete.

A bystander called police after reportedly spotting Dustin Guilford around 1:42 pm holding the implement near 95 Washington Ave. He was arrested and charged with possession of a weapon. He was being held on $2,500 bail.

On Nov. 3 around 8:40 pm, Jonathan Marks, 31, of Passaic was arrested on a DUI charge after allegedly striking a parked car near 680 Union Ave. He was charged and later released.
