Man Arrested After School Fight

After police broke up a fight involving middle school students, a 21-year-old man was arrested.

A 21-year-old Belleville man who is accused of inciting a fight at a middle school and of swearing at police officers and pretending to fire an imaginary gun was arrested, police announced recently.

Jonathon Rivera, 21, of Belleville, has been chargd with making terroristic threats against police and with being a disorderly person, said Deputy Police Chief Mark Minichini.

Rivera was arrested in connection with a fight on May 16 at 3 p.m, but police only announced his arrest recently.

On May 16, police responded to a report that a group of between 40 and 50 middle school students gathered at a field at School No. 8 field and may have been fighting.

Police arrived and dispersed the students, but Rivera continued to scream and yell and incite the crowd, pulling off  his shirt, Minichini said.

He was arrested after pretending to fire an imaginary gun at police and swearing at officers, Minichini said.

As of Tuesday, Rivera was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail, Minichini said.
