Nutley Man Arrested in Connection with Heroin Death

Police believe man delivered drug to man who overdosed in 2010.

Pequannock police have arrested a Nutley man in connection with a 2010 fatal heroin overdose.

Following a multi-year investigation, Eric G. Delia, 23, of Nutley, was charged Feb. 15 with possession of a controlled deadly substance and possession of a controlled deadly substance within 500 Feet of a public park, according to a release on the department's website

The charges stem from the death of an unidentified 27-year-old Pequannock man who was found dead in his apartment on June 28, 2010. Police were reportedly called to his home when the man’s mother alerted emergency responders after discovering her son unresponsive in his apartment. Police arrived on scene and determined the man had died.

Officers at the scene reportedly found evidence of drugs and alerted the Morris County Medical Examiner. A toxicology examination determined the cause of death was a drug overdose. According to Pequannock police, detectives investigating the death determined Delia delivered the fatal heroin dose.

According to a report on NJ.com, Delia turned himself in after police contacted his lawyer.

Bail was set by Judge John A. Paparazzo at $25,000. Mr. Delia was released on bail pending arraignment.
