Nutley Police Arrest Teen in Connection With iPhone Theft

Teen reportedly ran off with phone after borrowing it from fellow bus passenger.

A teen boy was arrested after allegedly attempting to steal an iPhone 5 from a fellow bus passenger.

Nutley police said the victim stepped off a bus at the same time as another male who asked to use their phone.

After using the phone, the passenger reportedly ran away. The phone was described as a white iPhone 5, and had an approximate value of $400.

The thief was described as a black male approximately 6 feet tall, with a tattoo on his right hand, wearing a black jacket and blue jeans. A teen matching the description was stopped near Prospect St. and police said a white iPhone 5 was confiscated from him.

The teen was taken to Headquarters. The Detective Bureau took control of the investigation, contacted the Essex County Juvenile Detention Facility and released the teen to his mother’s custody. Complaints for theft were mailed to the Juvenile Courts.
