Nutley: Police Arrest Woman Following Chase

Resident startles two burglars

On Nov. 10 at 2 pm, a motor vehicle was stolen from a residence on Margaret Avenue.  The victim stated that the car was unlocked and the alarm was not activated at the time of the incident.  Nutley police later found the vehicle.

That same day, a few minutes later, Nutley police joined in the pursuit of a car that was being chased by police in neighboring Belleville. Nutley began pursuing the car at Washington and Grant avenues and continued following it down several side streets until the driver pulled over.

Lauren Fletcher, 28, of Newark, was charged with eluding and issued summonses for speeding and reckless driving and released.

Shortly before 10 am on Nov. 13, a River Road resident called police after two men entered the home. The victim was in the basement when the victim heard voices, then saw a clean-shaven black male wearing orange gloves and black clothing peek around a corner. The victim picked up a pair of scissors and yelled at the man. The victim spotted a second man, a black man also dressed in black, after leaving the basement. Neighbors saw men matching the suspects’ description fleeing from the home.

Police were not able to find the men, who are believed to have entered through an unlocked door.

A car parked near Hillside Avenue was reported stolen shortly after midnight Nov. 16. The owner told police the car would not start after repeated attempts as of Nov. 10. When the owner came back, the car was gone.
