Belleville Strip Club Fight Leads to Assault of Officer, Police Say

One of the two men charged is accused of punching a cop and having 91 painkiller pills.

Two men with the same last names were arrested for drug possession and other charges following an altercation with bouncers and responding police officers at a Belleville strip club last week, police said.

According to Belleville police, officers responded to a report that customers were assaulting security staff at Wet Go Go Bar on Belleville Avenue shortly after 8:30 p.m. last Thursday.

Police said the responding officers found two men, Eric Matarazzo, 21 of Jersey City and Gary Matarazzo, 46, of Lyndhurst, restrained by security staff after a fight. The men were combative when police arrived and intervened, police said.

Police said Gary Matarazzo punched a police officer trying to quell the altercation.

Both men allegedly continued to yell and curse as they were taken into custody. Belleville police said that when searched, Gary Matarazzo was found with 91 oxycodone pills on with him.

Police charged Gary Matarazzo with possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school, aggravated assault on police, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest and two counts of simple assault.

Eric Matarazzo was charged with two counts of simple assault, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.

Both were held on $5,000 bail. Police were not able to say if the men were related.

The "Dance Club" license should never have been allowed to be passed on to a new owner. Town ordinances prohibits Dance Clubs in Belleville. It should have died out then and we would not be attracting people from other towns to disturb the quality of life in our town. It is within 1000 feet of an Elementary School.

You are right Jeff. How about the $5,000 bail for these two? Considering the charges one would think bail would be much higher --- that low bail is a problem.
