UPDATE: Kitten Adopted by Firefighter Who Rescued Him

It's a story with a happy ending.

Firefighter Hemmer of the Bloomfield Fire Department rescued this small cat who was stuck in a storm drain at Watsessing Park on June 2, 2012.  Hemmer has now adopted the kitten and named him Storm.  As you can see, he is a happy firehouse cat!

Here is the original account of the rescue, written by firefighter Dave Parsons.

On June 2nd at around 1530 hrs Truck 1 was sent to assist the animal control officer on Conger Street at Watsessing park with a kitten stuck in a storm drain. The grates were lifted by the members and a few attempts were made to reach the stuck cat. By this point the kitten had moved further down the drain system into the park.  

Members removed a drain cover in the park and called for additional help from the deputy and engine2.  

A hose line and net were used to coax the feline down to the waiting hands of the animal control officer. The kitten was rescued safely and without incident.  

One of the Firefighters involved in the rescue is interested in adopting the kitten as soon as it is checked out and given the ok (a clean bill of health).  Members from Truck1 engine2 and the deputy on duty took part in the rescue.
