Colleen Brittain of the health department said it is important to take precautions before the winter flu season begins.

"By getting the flu vaccine you can protect yourself from influenza and may also avoid spreading influenza to others," Brittain said.  "As always, it is extremely important for young children, people 65 and older, pregnant women, people with certain health conditions and those with weakened immune systems be vaccinated because they are more likely to get much sicker from the flu."
