Belleville schools reopen after Sandy, Nutley generator stolen.
Bloomfield Avenue Bank Robbed Tuesday
On Tuesday, just before 1 p.m., a suspect entered the Valley National Bank in Belleville passing a note saying “Have gun. Give me money.” This is the second time in almost two years that the bank has been robbed. The suspect is described as Hispanic, wearing a black knit cap with a gray hooded sweatshirt and black pants. No arrests have been made.
Manager Kevin Esposito said Rutgers Street east of Washington Avenue, which leads to the Rt. 7 bridge, was reopened. The steeple at the historic Dutch Reformed Church site, which had been damaged during Superstorm Sandy, needed to be secured. The structure cannot yet be safely occupied.
Essex County Braces for Nor-easter
One week after Super Storm Sandy, Nor'easter Athena arrives. The storm caused snow throughout the county. Residents without power and heat had to brave yet another night of chilly temperatures. Nutley residents without powerhave been advised to call Mayor Alphonse Petracco’s office.

Nutley: Generator Reported Stolen
On Tuesday, shortly after 6 p.m., a Franklin Avenue resident reported the theft of a generator that was providing electricity to their home. After the lights went out, they went outside to discover their generator had been stolen. There were no witnesses to the theft and no one was seen leaving the area.
Belleville Schools Reopen Wednesday
Belleville Board of Education member Joe Longo confirmed schools would be reopening on Wednesday as scheduled following cleanup efforts from Hurricane Sandy. The township was preparing for more severe weather as Winter Storm Athena, a nor'easter was about to hit. Some residents are still without power on Ralph Street. Councilman Steve Rovell said the township will still be offering shelter to those who need it and check to make sure the shelter location has not been changed due to the weather.
