Belleville Library To Host English Tea

The 15-year tradition is sponsored by the Friends of the Belleville Library.

The rest of the year it may be the Belleville Public Library, but on Sept. 23rd, it will become something out of a storybook as visitors participate in a formal English tea.

The event will include white gloves, hats, pastries, and desserts donated by local restaurants. The Friends of the Library English Tea will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23.

"Tickets are limited to a total of 60, and sell out quickly, so don’t miss your chance to attend this beloved event," said Joan Taub, library director. "We've already sent out invitations to those who have come to past teas, but anyone is welcome."

Tickets are $15 each and can be purchased at the library circulation desk.

"This is for the 'In' crowd, if you enjoy a proper English Tea," said Taub.

It is a 15-year tradition at the library and one of the coordinators is Marjorie Lordi, a volunteer for many years. Her family came from England, and she is well-versed in how to put on the traditional ceremony, Taub said.

Lordi has called the event one of the library’s highlights of the year.

For the occasion, the library will be transformed into a traditional English drawing room to add to the festive mood. The Belleville Public Library and Information Center is located at 221 Washington Ave.
