Nutley Bans On-Street Parking in Advance of Storm

In storm bulletin, Nutley officials urge residents to only use 9-11 for emergencies.

Nutley Commissioners released the following information bulletin on Thursday. 

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NEW YORK HAS ISSUED A WINTER STORM WARNING FOR SNOW AND STRONG WINDS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THURSDAY TO 1 PM EST FRIDAY.

NO ON STREET OR OVER NIGHT PARKING

No parking is permitted on roads covered with snow or when a Snow Emergency has been issued by the County. Vehicles in violation will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense. The Police Department will not authorize any overnight parking when the roads are snow covered.

The Municipal Parking lot #1 located off Centre or Williams Streets behind the diner can be used for parking after 8 PM Thursday night until 8 AM Saturday. This lot is located directly behind the Nutley Diner, 372 Centre Street. Please be available to remove your vehicle by 8 AM Saturday so this lot can be cleared of snow. Please park in the spaces not reserved for permit parking. No fee will be charged during the times stated above.

SNOW PLOWING OF ROADWAYS

To aid the Public Works Department in clearing the streets, do not throw snow back into the street. Do not plow snow into the roadway. This will be strictly enforced.

Snow Plowing Operations may cause snow to be pushed and cover the apron of your driveway. Clearing the apron of your driveway is the responsibility of the property owner.  Any person(s) harassing any Township Employee will be charged with Harassment.

If temperatures drop into the single digits, the effectiveness of road salt to clear ice and snow from roadways becomes limited.

SNOW REMOVAL FROM SIDEWALKS

All property owners are required to clear snow from sidewalks within 24 hours of the end of the snow event. if possible use grassy areas to pile snow.

FIRE HYDRANTS

Do not bury fire hydrants with snow. Those caught burying fire hydrants will be fined. It is ask that you assist Emergency Responders and clear snow away from the fire hydrant.

 HELP YOUR NEIGHBORS

Please assist your neighbors by checking on the elderly or those in need. Help to keep exit doors from homes clear. With the expected wind, snow drift may pile up blocking the means of entrance or exit from a structure. Any elderly or disabled person(s) requiring assistance with snow removal should call the Nutley Police Department at (973) 284-4940.

WARMING CENTERS

In preparation for Snow Storm Hercules and possible power outages, the Department of Public Affairs will have a warming center available. Residents who will need to come to the warming center can call the Nutley Police Department at 973-284-4940. The Public Heath Reserve Corps and Nursing staff will be available if needed.

POWER OUTAGES

In the event of a Power Outage, please notify PSEG directly. PSEG needs your account number to track outages and locations requiring restoration of power.

If you utilize a portable gasoline or diesel generator, the equipment should be used outside of your home or building and kept at least 20 feet away. These machines pose a fire hazard because of the fuels used to run them. They also can cause a carbon monoxide issue when used inside or too close to structures leading to possible death or serious injury.
