Sunday Is Green Day at the Farmer's Market

Nutley officials invite residents to a mini-ecology festival, with educational workshops, a rain barrel demonstration, a master gardener workshop and special vendor exhibits.

The second annual Green Day at the Nutley Farmers Market is taking place Sunday and will feature environmentally educational workshops, a rain barrel demonstration, a master gardener workshop and eco-friendly vendor exhibits, according to Commissioner Joseph Scarpelli and the Greenutley Committee.

The ecology event will take place this Sunday, Sept. 23rd from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Municipal Parking Lot #1 off Franklin Avenue.

“This event has become an annual tradition for the Greenutley Farmers Market,” said Scarpelli.  “Green Day at the Market is another great way to reach out to our community and remind everyone to make greener choices.”

Greenutley’s Farmers Market vendors will also be in attendance with a few guest vendors and activities for this special event, Scarpelli said.

“There will be something for everyone at Green Day at the Market,” Scarpelli said, adding that his Department of Public Works will hold a special recycling collection for CFL light bulbs.

The public works employees will also be selling Project Porchlight Kits, which is a kit containing 12 energy-saving CFL light bulbs and two desk lamps, for $20, he said.

Smart Center of Englewood will offer smart car test drives and the Nutley Public Safety Department will have their Segway on hand for those interested in learning about this alternative mode of transportation and how town officials are doing their part to be more energy efficient, Scarpelli said.

“Green Day at the Market is a great family event with fun for all,” he said. There will be live entertainment provided by the students of TK music, a Nutley-based music school, and a craft corner and kid zone for children.”

Greenutley is also conducting a Bike/Scooter/Skateboard Freecycle Event.
