Belleville Superintendent Sued, Tanning Mom Reappears in This Week's News

Belleville Superintendent of Schools accused of sexual misconduct, Nutley Commissioners join a lawsuit to protect telephone tax dollars, and the Nutley "Tan Mom" came back last week.

Belleville Superintendent Accused of Sexual Misconduct

The Belleville Schools Superintendent has been accused of sexual misconduct by a former male employee and has been placed on a paid leave of absence. Calls to the Belleville Board of Education confirmed Superintendent Joseph Picardo is on leave, he has been unavailable for comment. A former male emloyee filed a lawsuit in state Superior Court accusing Picardo of "a series of sexual abuses suffered during his employment," according to Gerald Saluti, lawyer for the former employee. 

Nutley Fighting Loss of Telephone Tax Revenue

The Nutley Board of Commissioners voted this week to join a lawsuit with Hopewell Township and the New Jersey League of Municipalities to keep from losing $200,000 in taxes from Verizon. Because the number of residents using land lines has dropped, the company has notified the township it no longer expects to pay taxes on its telephone pole and electrical lines, said Commissioner Thomas Evans, the director of the township’s Dept. of Revenue and Finance.

Nutley's 'Tan Mom' Gets Help

Using her name and fame, the 'Tanning Mom' of Nutley, Patricia Krentcil, has teamed up with the author of 'The Skin Regime' in a series of webisodes on Youtube about improving her skin. Currently featured on Dana Ramos’s website for her book, 'The Skin Regime; Boot Camp for Beautiful Skin' , Krentcil stars in her first two webisodes, 'Tanning Mom Gets a Face Peel' and 'Adorable Anna.' This Friday, Krentcil will be a special guest for the launch of a new book at Westchester Mixed Martial Arts in Kisco, N.Y.

Middle School Welcomes Korean Teachers

Two teachers from Korea will spend a semester at Belleville Middle School and are taking part in teaching students math and science. They are Sunhee Sunny Ryu, a math teacher with 17 years of experience, and JinJu Pearl Back, a science teacher with five years of experience.Both are part of a teaching practicum run by Bloomfield College, according to Dawn Buccino, a middle school teacher. Middle School Principal Dana Cavallo said the entire school staff and many students "are extremely excited."
