Nutley To Plant New Trees Throughout Township

Trees are coming to Nutley, after officials voted at an Aug. 14 meeting to purchase and install trees that will be planted throughout the township, according to Maruo Tucci, director of the Department of Parks and Recreation. Large species of trees will be planted in the parks, while smaller trees – that will not grow large enough to get in the way of power lines – will be planted on .

Hurricane Irene's Wrath Recalled

A year after barreled into Belleville and Nutley, forcing some residents recalled having to evacuate by boat to avoid flooding, downed trees and power lines and the havoc in some parts of town. Some of the most painful memories came from residents of Fairway Avenue in Belleville, where residents had to be taken out by boat as the Second River overflowed and brought water up through basements to main floors. In Nutley, residents recalled the storm left between 2,000 and 5,000 customers without power.

Nutley School Officials Want To See Test Scores Rise

Nutley school officials want student test scores to rise this school year and are making it a priority, school officials said . Superintendent of Schools Russell Lazovick talked about students’ test scores to the school board and a small audience at the the Aug. 27 Board of Education meeting, and outlined plans to improve scores by breaking up students into three areas to make sure all students are improving, he said.

Nutley School Officials Outline Curriculum Changes

New teachers in the Nutley School District will get together before school starts to go over changes in curriculum, the school board said  In addition, the district presented curriculum goals that included asking the teachers to collaborate more this year. Gina Villani, director of Curriculum and Instruction for the Nutley School District, led a presentation at the Aug. 27 Board of Education meeting about changes to curriculum for the upcoming school year.
