Back to School Brings Staff Changes in Nutley

Nutley's superintendent talked about changes coming to school administration and teachers at Monday night Board of Education meeting.

There are some personnel changes taking place this fall when school begins in Nutley.

Superintendent Russell Lazovick outlined some of the new positions recently. The changes will be in effect when classes begin a week from Thursday, on Sept. 6.

He added that some teachers have requested leaves of absence, so there are a few vacancies still being filled.

"There are leaves of absence being submitted, and we will have to replace teachers," said, Russell Lazovick, superintendent of schools.

Among the changes are:

  • A new Director of Special Services was hired, with Alain Mollinedo taking over, Lazovick said.
  • Nutley High School's new principal is Denis Williams, while Frank Francia and David Sorensen were promoted to be vice principals at the high school, he said.
  • Keith Cortright is the new principal at John H. Walker Middle School, Lazovick said.
  • Yantacaw School also has a new principal, Anne Marie Carollo, he said.

Changes were made to curriculum, and a presentation was made at Monday night's board meeting. A full story is coming as part of Patch's back-to-school coverage.

"We rewrote curriculum for language arts and math," Lazovick said. "It is being approved on Monday night and teachers, through our new website, will provide ongoing feedback and critique as they teach it so that it may be modified toward the end of the school year and improved prior to 2013-14."
