Belleville School Celebrates Year in Art

School No. 10's art teacher, principal, others welcome town to experience students creativity.

School No. 10 Art Teacher Christina Modrzewski smiled Tuesday night as she complimented her students at the annual Art Show Tuesday night.

Parents were invited to the elementary school to see a student art gallery made up of watercolor paintings of landscapes, pencil self-portrait drawings, and chalk drawings of all types, as part of the two- and three-dimensional creations. Elaborately colored paper masks with long, flowing ribbons were also highlighted, as were animals like owls and colorful birds.

Students also molded clay into trays, built wicker baskets and generally filled the room with every color possible.

Modrzewski, Principal Susan Rovell and a slew of parents, students and others walked around the all-purpose room, took photos and raved about the quality of the art culled from the entire school year.

Sixth-grader Felix Cruz said he thought the school "looks great," as he and his cousin, Sara Lunali, checked out the art and the free cookies, juice, water, cheese and crackers served by the school's parents group.

Each of the township's seven elementary schools have had, or will have, art shows before the school year ends.

Modrzewski said, "I'm so proud of all my students here and at School No. 7, where I also teach art."
