Budding Belleville High Scientists Win Full Scholarship for Summer Program

Fourteen Belleville High School students will participate in the Samsung Scholar Rutgers 4-H Summer Science Program next month in which they will participate in research projects and hands-on activities in science-related fields.

Out of 20 young scientists chosen to participate in the Samsung Scholar Rutgers 4-H Summer Science Program, 14 of them are from Belleville High School.

The school announced last Monday that Dalena Lien, Victoria Bruno, Adrianna Spencer, Ilce Perez, Krystal Renta, Kyle Walsh, Charlize-Krish R. Bulusan, Najalis Gual, Andrea Fujimoto, Emely Mendez, Faizah Chowdhury, Han Tri, Leslie Wilson, and Gloria Hussain will attend the four-day program in July where these students will gain new science skills at Rutgers University.

The students will learn about science, technology, engineering, and math, explore research going on at the Rutgers campus, and discover opportunities available to them in STEM fields.

The program, that operates from July 7 to 11, provides students with free on-campus housing, meals and the opportunity to connect with STEM professors, researchers and students.

Students will return to Belleville as "science ambassadors" who will work with 4-H staff, an organization dedicated to empower students to take an interest in science-related fields, to provide STEM activities for their peers and younger students.

"We are really excited for all of the students to come to Rutgers and experience a week of education and empower the students to return to Belleville and be local Science Ambassadors," said Jessica Mejia, 4-H Youth Development of Essex County Program Assistant.
